Coffeehouse Treats
Two breakfast treats simple enough to make at home.

We created our ideal breakfast scone: moist, flaky, rich (but not overly so), and lightly sweetened—we didn’t want to mistake this scone for dessert. And then we packed it with fresh blueberries. We love the robust richness of bran muffin, and they make a satisfying breakfast, keeping our hunger in check for hours. Many recipes for good bran muffins contain unprocessed bran, which can easily be found at natural foods stores. But what if you don’t want to make a special trip just for a batch of muffins? Could we make moist, hearty bran muffins from one of the many bran cereals our supermarket offers? We headed into the test kitchen to find out.
